Health and Safety Issues in Romanian Forests: Findings from FSC Certification Audits

In a wider context of attempting to minimise forestry related occupational hazards, this paper aimed evaluate the ability FSC forest management certification contribute identifying, describing, and reducing health safety issues in Romania. By extracting analysing non-conformities from auditing reports issued for Romanian operations between 2013 2018, study reveals that most important risk factors are organizational factors, followed by equipment-related factors. The correlation results with other findings literature indicates is suitable tool identify describe aspects activities, especially operations. analysis also some possible causes high rate work accidents forestry: obsolete less mechanised technology, low concern providing using specific equipment, wages operations, lack proper training etc. All these point need improving safe organisational culture.
